Pirates Ahoy!

Great news at Ysgol Rhoscolyn! The seaside garden is finally finished. It has taken a while but it has actually created a really good seaside affect, with the lifebelts and boats and a beach hut. The garden army, with help from the children has made it become an area of relaxation and joy as miniature pirates will sail across the stones and take treasure for themselves, or relax in the shade of the beach hut and just chatter about things.

Red Arrow Delight

As the Red Arrows prepare for their forthcoming performance, Ysgol Rhoscolyn were delighted to catch a sneak preview as the Arrows rehearsed their spectacular display above the school fileds. It was an amazing sight as colours poured out into the sky from their dare-devil stunts. No-one knew what to expect next from the formation, as pupils and teachers stood in awe of the pilots' skill. Everyone cheered, thinking they were brave, crossing over and rotating in circles, with their trailing clouds of colourful smoke. As the Arrows flew back to land, their colours faded into the sky, the performance had come to an end. Well done, Red Arrows, please come back!

School gardens

The decision to go forward with the gardens - was it a good one or a bad one? As they're taking up space on the field for playing on - they're taking up that space to improve school wildlife and invite different species of bird and butterfly, making the school greener. Also educating the students in gardening and nature and wildlife. The more wildlife that's in the school the nicer it looks. Also it's healthy as you can grow plants or herbs that can be cooked and served in school dinners and making the school healthy and a nice place to work play and enjoy. As the school gardens are for playing in and relaxing there's also the badger trail going from the rock around the field - so what's is it doing there? And why is it coming here? Is it because we're attracting them here from the gardens? Or is it smaller creatures are coming here and the badgers can't resist it.

Rhoscolyn’s Victory

After a whole day of cricket at Penhros cricket ground Ysgol Rhoscolyn came out on top with Ysgol Tywyn closely behind.

Rhoscolyn’s day started differently as Ysgol Thomos Ellis arrived late and because of the late start Rhoscolyn’s schedule was very tightly packed! They beat the favourites Kingsland and then beat Tywyn who had also played three and won three in a tightly fought game of cricket. Finally they beat indoor champions Llanfawr to put themselves on top. In the first match Ben hit three fours in three balls and captain Guto D two sixes in two balls! Kyler hit the first four behind the wicket keeper to set Rhoscolyn’s tournament off to a flier. Ysgol Rhoscolyn finished on twenty points with Ysgol Tywyn closely behind on eighteen points. Ysgol Rhoscolyn will go to Aberystwyth in an attempt to win and get to the test ground Headingly and become the champions of Britain!!! It is possible but very, very difficult as all of the best teams in Wales will be at Aberystwyth and all the best teams in Britain will be at Headingly!!! Rhoscolyn will also find it hard to beat last years winners Kingsland’s performance as they came third at Aberystwyth!!
“ If Kingsland got third last year we beat them in the Anglesey tournament we have got a strong chance of getting to Headingly this year.” said Rhoscolyn team member Kyler when asked to comment.
We also must remember that Rhoscolyn have three players for Anglesey (Aron P, Mattew J and Guto D), Two players for Eryri (Mattew J and Guto D) and one player for Wales (Mattew J).
Best of luck Rhoscolyn!

Cricket victory!

Rhoscolyn cricket team makes the school proud by earning their prize. They beat Ysgol Tomos Ellis, Kingsland, Valley, Tywyn and Llanfawr. They played a great match and won the trophy by 2 points.
One of Llanfawr members injured themselves by diving for the ball and hurting their back, he could not play the rest of the match but he still got up and cheered his team along.
Rhoscolyn cricket team was very proud with themselves for beating all the school’s that were there, one team member was so proud she would not stop squeaking all the way home.
Everyone played a great game. When they found out they won they screamed with joy well at least the girls did any way. Guto went to collect the team’s trophy and he smiled for the camera.
After the trophy was collected the winning team posed for the camera and everyone went home with a smile on their faces!!!

Dinosaur Discovered

A new type of dinosaur has just been discovered. This amazing creature lived 220 million years ago and was roughly the size of a fox. It stood on two long legs and outrun predators. The discoverer, Dr Richard Butler, had this to say:
“Eocursor is a very small and primitive dinosaur that would have eaten plants with its leaf-shaped teeth and had an unusually large, grasping hand. The lower leg bones are very long, suggesting it would have been able to run fast on its hind legs to escape from predators.” The fossils of this 10 cm long herbivore was found in South Africa in 1993 but only recently has been studied. It would make a very interesting school trip!

Cricket success

On June 13 Rhoscolyn cricket school were able to win the Anglesey Aluminium Cricket Club Schools Festival for the second time in 2005 and now 2007. Rhoscolyn came top of the tournament with 20 points 2 points in front of Tywyn School who came 2 with 18 points. The school had to face all kind of different schools like Tywyn, Kingsland, Valley, Llanfawr and Thomas Ellis. The first game in the tournament we played against Thomas Ellis. Guto who was captain lost the toss and Thomas Ellis elected to field.
So Rhoscolyn were sent to bat first with Ben and kyler opening. As the first over passed by Ben had fit a couple of fours and 1 six. But on the side Kyler was keeping it simple. Then there over finished and they swapped pats with Aron and Jack. So Aron faces first. And he goes big and gets big 6 runs then Jack turn to face. Brilliant ball by the Thomas Ellis Bowler But a top shot down the ground by Jack 4 more. Then time four Guto and Rebecca to come in. Rhoscolyn playing brilliant cricket. Guto to face first. Smacked for 4 runs then 6 Rebecca to face girl v girl. Brilliant shot 4 runs. End of over now then time for the big hitter to come in. Matthew and Alex. First ball at Mathew 6 then another 6 and another. Three sixes in a row, brilliant batting.

Seaside Garden

Ysgol Rhoscolyn is in the process of building a seaside garden at the moment we have got a bench made out of drift wood we have collected from the beach we also have two boats. As sand we have different shades of yellow pebbles so it looks like sand, the darker pebbles look as if the tide has come in. We need to move one of the sheds to make a beach hut and plant a palm tree and storage for all the gardening equipment. Dotted around the seaside garden are masts and sails and dagger boards and rudder and booms.

School Team Wins Again!!!!!

On June 13th Kingsland were favourites to win the Anglesey primary schools tournament. Bragging rights were up for grabs. But Rhoscolyn were in for a good chance with two players playing for Eryri,Guto D the captain and Matthew J, Matthew also plays for Wales and both of them plus Aron P all play for Angelsey. Rhoscolyn got off to a good start as they beat Thomas Ellis by 60 runs, Rhoscolyn lost the toss and were sent in to bat, Ben S and Klyer L opened the batting then Kingsland were in trouble as Aron P and Jack H took the crease with Aron hitting two sixes, then it was time for the captain Guto to hit two sixes as well he was companied by Rebecca then it was time for Matthew to hit four sixes who top scored with 24 but he couldn’t have done it without Alex A. Then it was time to face Kingsland who we lost against in last years final. But we proved to be to strong for them as Matthew J top scored with 19. With Aron P and Guto D both taking wickets but the pick of the blowers was definitely Alex A. After we beat Kingsland we went on to play Ysgol Fali on the pitch we lost in the final last year, Matthew J hit a massive 34 runs witch was the top score in the whole of the tournament. Guto D, Aron P, Alex A and Rebecca R all took wickets. Then it was time to face one of the best schools Ysgol Tywyn but once again we were to strong for them, as Guto D top scored with 12 once again Guto, Aron and Alex took wickets Alex was the only person to take a wicket in every game. Are last game was against Ysgol Llanfawr if we won this we had won the tournament for the second time in three years but after the close scrape against Tywyn we weren’t sure if we could win. But once again Alex took a wicket so did Rebecca. Guto hit 15 his highest score of the tournament Aron hit 19 also his highest score of tournament and Matthew hit 23. We won by 30 runs! Guto went up to collect the trophy with pride.

Urdd Gymnastics

Two girls competed in the Eisteddfod with a fantastic performance that blew the judges and the crowd away with their mums and their teacher screaming and shouting with joy after their performance - they were certainly celebrating !!!

Two girls named Katie and Sophie entered in an Urdd competition to win the pairs for Ysgol Rhoscolyn and gave their best performance yet against a lot of other children from different schools determined to win! Their teacher /Miss Williams came along to cheer them on and she was determined they were going to win, their mums were there to cheer them on too.

They gave a fantastic performance and won a gold medal and a plaque they are going to get their names engraved and keep it for a year with their names for posterity. As they went home in joy they showed their medals and their plaque to their head coach Ellen Williams, they even had to show their performance one last time!
